Painting on Protection

Always looking to better its product line, Luff Industries Ltd. introduced a new and improved paint to its manufacturing process in October 2011. The new paint offers a harder, glossier finish that not only looks good but provides for a more durable, scratch resistant and environmentally friendly finish. Luff Production Manager, Christopher Fasoli, said the paint was developed in conjunction with Sherwin Williams, one of the largest and most experienced coating producers in the world. “Sherwin Williams developed this paint over a period of about six months,” said Fasoli. “It had to meet very rigid guidelines and was tested in various environmental conditions including a saltwater bath.” The final product outlasted eight other competing samples by a minimum margin of 2:1, he explained. The longer paint life offers increased protection to the dipped shell, ultimately increasing product life and durability. Luff added a heat chamber to its paint production line providing for faster drying times and increased production. “We’ve almost doubled capacity, while ensuring the paint off ers a stronger and better end product,” added Fasoli. Another benefit of the new paint is its water soluble state and low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound). Tools and materials can be cleaned with water eliminating harmful chemicals, including thinners and cleaners, from the workplace and environment. “Employee safety is always a top priority at Luff ,” Fasoli said. “We strive to provide the most effi cient and safe workplace in the business. The low VOC also reduces harmful gasses that may be released into the environment”. If you’d like more information regarding Luff ’s improved paint process, please contact us.
